In life, there are moments when the challenges we face seem too great to be overcome. At times, we feel overwhelmed, underprepared, and even defeated. But in those very moments, we are reminded through Scripture that God is our source of strength, and He calls us to move forward with courage, regardless of how impossible the circumstances may seem. One powerful reminder of this comes from the book of Judges, where the Israelites, in a time of great oppression, are called to act in faith and go forward with all their strength.
In Judges 6:2-6, we see the Israelites facing intense hardship. The Midianites, along with other enemy groups, repeatedly invade Israel, destroying crops, livestock, and anything that could sustain the people. The Israelites are so impoverished and oppressed that they are forced to take shelter in caves and strongholds. The overwhelming power of their enemies causes them to cry out to God for help. Their strength has been drained by their circumstances, and they seem helpless in the face of such overwhelming odds.
But in Judges 6:12, when the angel of the Lord appears to Gideon, he calls him a “mighty warrior,” despite Gideon’s own doubts and fear. Gideon, like the Israelites, sees himself as weak and unworthy of such a title. He asks the angel, “Pardon me, my lord, but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?” (Judges 6:13). He wonders where God’s presence has been during their suffering. But God’s response is not one of rebuke but of encouragement. God tells Gideon that He is with him, and with God’s strength, he is called to lead Israel into victory over the Midianites.
This encounter is a profound example of how God equips His people. Gideon is called to rise up with courage, not because of his own ability, but because God’s power is going with him. The same principle applies to us today. When we feel defeated, when life seems beyond our control, God invites us to move forward with all our strength. Not in our own power, but in the strength He provides.
Throughout Scripture, God consistently reminds His people that His presence is their strength. In Psalm 28:7, it says, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.” God is not calling us to fight our battles alone; He is calling us to trust in Him and rely on His power. When we feel weak or inadequate, we are encouraged to go forward, not in fear or self-doubt, but in the strength that comes from knowing God is with us.
The phrase “Go with all your strength” is a reminder to give everything we have, trusting that God will do the rest. It’s not about our perfection or ability to handle every situation on our own. It’s about surrendering to God, knowing that He will equip us and go before us. In the moments when we feel like we’re at the end of our strength, God is there to provide the strength we need to press on.
As we face challenges, whether they are personal struggles, emotional battles, or external pressures, we must remember the example of Gideon and the Israelites. God calls us to step out in faith, to go with all our strength, trusting that He will never leave us nor forsake us. With God by our side, we are more than conquerors, equipped to face whatever lies ahead.
