THE CROSS STILL SPEAKS

The cross is not just an ancient symbol hanging on church walls or worn around our necks  it is the living message of God’s love and redemption. Over two thousand years have passed since Jesus hung upon that rugged cross, yet its voice still echoes through time. The cross still speaks. It speaks of a love so deep that heaven reached down to rescue earth. It speaks of a Savior who willingly took our place so that we might have peace with God.

Every nail that pierced His hands and feet tells the story of forgiveness. Every drop of blood that fell on Calvary’s hill declares that sin no longer has the final word. The cross is the ultimate declaration that God’s mercy triumphs over judgment.“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.*  1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV). The world may try to silence it, to turn the cross into a mere symbol of religion or history, but its message remains alive and powerful to all who believe.

The cross still speaks of *grace*. When we feel unworthy or overwhelmed by our failures, the cross whispers, “You are forgiven.” Jesus did not die for the perfect  He died for the broken, the lost, and the unworthy. Through His sacrifice, we are made righteous. “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.”*  **1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)**. The cross reminds us that we are not defined by our past, but by His grace.

It also speaks of hope. Life can be filled with pain, disappointment, and loss. But when we look to the cross, we see that suffering is not the end of the story. Jesus endured the cross, but three days later, He rose again! That means no matter how dark our situation may seem, resurrection is possible. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us today (Romans 8:11). The cross tells us that even when everything looks hopeless, God is still working.

Finally, the cross speaks of victory. It proclaims that death has been defeated, sin has been conquered, and the devil has been disarmed. *“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”* *Colossians 2:15 (NKJV)*. The cross is not a symbol of defeat; it is the banner of our triumph through Christ Jesus.
