EVERLASTING LOVE

There are few truths in Scripture as steadying, comforting, and life-shaping as this: God’s love is everlasting. It has no beginning and no end. It does not rise and fall with our moods, our mistakes, or our moments of strength. His love is rooted in His character, not our performance. When everything else in life shifts, His love remains the one constant we can cling to.

“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.’”  Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
This verse is a reminder that God’s love is not temporary or conditional. It is eternal. It stretches beyond our past, holds us in our present, and secures our future. God is not learning to love you He has always loved you, and He always will.

Many people struggle with the idea that God could love them consistently. Human love can be unpredictable. People leave, relationships change, promises break. Because of this, some believers subconsciously expect God to pull away when they fall short. But Scripture tells a different story.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life…nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 8:38–39
Notice Paul’s language nothing can separate us. Not sin, not failure, not fear, not weakness. God’s love is not fragile. It does not crack under pressure or collapse under the weight of our imperfections. Instead, it pursues us, surrounds us, and holds us even when we feel undeserving.

God’s everlasting love also transforms us. When we truly grasp that His love is secure, we stop striving for approval and begin living from a place of acceptance. We no longer obey out of fear, but out of gratitude. We no longer hide our weaknesses from God; we bring them to Him, knowing He meets us with mercy, not condemnation.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8
The cross is the greatest proof of God’s everlasting love. Jesus didn’t wait for us to clean up our lives before rescuing us. He stepped into our brokenness to redeem us. This means His love is not based on our worthiness; it is based on His goodness.

And because His love is everlasting, it brings hope to every season. In loneliness, it reminds us we are not forgotten. In suffering, it assures us we are not abandoned. In uncertainty, it anchors us to a God who never changes.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”  Psalm 136:1
The psalmist repeats this truth again and again because we are prone to forget it. But heaven never stops declaring it, and neither should we: God’s love endures forever.
