THE VALUE OF LOVE AND MONEY

Love and money are both important parts of life, but the Bible teaches that they have very different values. While money is useful and necessary, love is far more valuable. Love is eternal, while money is temporary. When we understand the right place of both love and money, we can live wisely and please God.

Money is not evil by itself. It helps us buy food, pay for school, support our families, and help others. But the love of money can lead to serious problems. 1 Timothy 6:10 says, “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” This verse doesn’t say money is bad—it says loving money too much can lead people to lie, steal or forget God.

On the other hand, love is the greatest gift. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Love is more valuable than money because love brings peace, kindness, forgiveness and unity. Money cannot buy real love and it cannot replace the joy that love brings.

Jesus warned people not to put their trust in money. In Matthew 6:24, He said, “You cannot serve both God and money.” When we focus too much on making money, we may forget to love others, help the poor or spend time with God. But when we value love, we become more generous, kind and full of joy.

The Bible also teaches us to use money wisely and with love. In Proverbs 3:9, it says, “Honour the Lord with your wealth.” We can use money to bless others help those in need, support God’s work and take care of our families. Money becomes a good tool when it is used with love and purpose.

God Himself is love. 1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” When we choose love first, we reflect the heart of God. Love shows up in how we treat others—with patience, kindness, and respect. Even if someone has a lot of money but has no love,  life feels empty and cold.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 teaches this clearly: “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong... If I have all knowledge and faith... but do not have love, I am nothing.” This shows that without love, all the money, power or talent in the world means nothing.

In the end, money will fade, but love will last forever. We cannot take money with us when we die, but the love we show others can leave a lasting impact. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-20, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... but store up treasures in heaven.”
