SPIRITUAL BATTLE

Every believer is engaged in a spiritual battle, whether they realize it or not. This battle is not against people or earthly systems, but against unseen spiritual forces that seek to hinder our walk with God. The apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” This verse reveals the reality that spiritual warfare is happening around us every day.

The enemy, Satan, aims to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). He attacks our minds with lies, tempts us with sin  and tries to weaken our faith through discouragement, fear and doubt. But God has not left us defenseless. He has given us spiritual armor and weapons to stand strong in the face of every attack. Paul continues in Ephesians 6:13, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” We are called not to retreat, but to stand — firm, bold, and fully equipped.

One of the most important aspects of spiritual warfare is knowing our identity in Christ. When we understand that we are children of God, clothed in His righteousness, and filled with His Spirit, we begin to fight from a place of victory — not defeat. Romans 8:37 declares, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” The enemy may come against us, but he cannot overcome us when we stand in the power of God.

Victory in spiritual battle also requires constant prayer and vigilance. Paul exhorts believers to pray “at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication” (Ephesians 6:18). Prayer connects us to the source of our strength and opens the door for God’s power to move in our lives. When we stay close to God through prayer, worship, and His Word, we are able to discern the schemes of the enemy and respond with truth and authority.

Jesus Himself modeled victory in spiritual battle. When tempted by Satan in the wilderness, He didn’t argue or reason — He responded with the Word of God. Each time, He said, “It is written...” (Matthew 4). God’s Word is our sword in battle. It cuts through lies and strengthens our faith. As believers, we must not only read the Word — we must believe it, declare it, and live by it.

The spiritual battle may be intense, but we are not alone. The Lord of Hosts fights for us. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 reminds us, “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” So let us put on the full armor of God, stand firm in faith, and fight with courage — knowing that victory belongs to the Lord.
