SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Spiritual growth is an important part of the Christian life. Just like a child grows physically and learns new things, we also need to grow in our walk with God. When we give our lives to Jesus, that is just the beginning of the journey. God wants us to grow every day so that we can become more like Him in the way we think, speak, and live.

The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” This verse tells us that spiritual growth happens through grace and by learning more about Jesus. It is not something we do by our own strength, but by staying close to God and allowing Him to work in our hearts.

One of the ways we grow spiritually is by reading the Word of God. The Bible is like spiritual food. Just as our bodies need food to grow strong, our spirits need the Word of God to stay strong. In Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” When we read the Bible, we learn God’s truth, His promises, and how we should live.

Another way we grow is through prayer. Prayer is talking to God and listening to Him. When we pray, we build a relationship with our Heavenly Father. We can tell Him how we feel, ask for guidance, and thank Him for what He has done. The more time we spend in prayer, the more we learn to trust Him and follow His voice.

Spiritual growth also happens through obedience. When we hear God’s Word and apply it in our lives, we begin to grow. It’s not just about knowing Scripture—it’s about living it. In James 1:22, we are reminded, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Every time we choose to forgive, love, serve, or walk in truth, we are growing.

Sometimes, God allows challenges in our lives to help us grow. Difficult situations teach us patience, faith, and dependence on God. Romans 5:3-4 says, “We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Even in hard times, God is shaping us and making us stronger.

Spiritual growth is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. Just like plants take time to grow, we also need time, care, and the right environment. Surrounding ourselves with other believers, attending church, worshiping, and serving others also help us grow.

Ask yourself today: Am I growing in my faith? Am I closer to God than I was last year, last month, or even last week? If not, ask God to help you grow. He is faithful to complete the work He began in you.

Philippians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Keep walking with Him, and you will continue to grow.
