THE DEVIL IS A LIAR

Jesus spoke plainly in John 8:44, saying, “He  was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” These are not just strong words they are truth. Satan’s entire nature is rooted in deception. From the beginning of time, his goal has been to separate people from God by twisting truth and planting doubt in the human heart.

One of the devil’s first lies appeared in the Garden of Eden when he asked Eve, “Did God really say...?” (Genesis 3:1). That single question was meant to create confusion and mistrust toward God’s Word. Today, Satan uses the same strategy in more subtle ways. He lies to us about our identity, our worth, our forgiveness, and even about God’s love. He whispers things like, “You’ll never be good enough,” or “God has forgotten about you.” But these are lies meant to paralyze your faith and distance you from the truth of God’s Word.

The truth is, you are who God says you are. In Romans 8:1, Scripture reminds us, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” That means your past is not held against you. When the enemy brings up your failures, God brings up your forgiveness. You are not your mistakes; you are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10). When the devil says you are worthless, God says you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). These aren’t just feel-good phrases they are eternal truths backed by the living Word of God.

Satan thrives on your ignorance of the Word. That’s why Jesus, when tempted in the wilderness, didn’t argue or reason with the devil. Instead, He responded with Scripture: “It is written…” (Matthew 4:4). Jesus used truth to confront lies, and He invites us to do the same. When you know the truth, you won’t fall for a lie. As John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

So what does this mean for you? It means you don’t have to accept every thought that enters your mind. You have the authority in Christ to reject lies and declare truth. It means you need to stay connected to God’s Word, because it is your weapon against deception. And it means that your battle is not with flesh and blood, but with spiritual forces that want to keep you bound (Ephesians 6:12). But take heart Jesus has already won the victory.

When you hear voices that speak fear, shame, or hopelessness, remember this: That is not God speaking. His voice brings peace, not confusion. His truth brings freedom, not fear. The devil is a liar, but God is truth. And in Christ, the truth always wins.
