To seek God first means to put Him at the center of everything we do. It means starting the day with prayer and His Word before we check our phones. It means involving Him in every decision whether big or small. Seeking God first is a lifestyle of daily surrender, trust, and dependence on His guidance and wisdom.
When we seek God first, we are telling Him, “Lord, I trust You more than I trust my job, my plans, or my abilities.” It is a way of honoring God and recognizing that He is the source of every good thing in our lives. Proverbs 3:6 reinforces this: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” God doesn’t want just a part of our time; He wants to be first.
The promise of Matthew 6:33 is clear when we prioritize God and His kingdom, He will take care of the rest. That includes our needs, dreams, and desires. This doesn’t mean that life will always be easy, but it does mean that we will never walk alone and we will have the peace of knowing we are in God’s will.
There are practical ways we can seek God first. We can start the day with a few moments of prayer, read a chapter of the Bible, or worship before anything else. We can pause during the day to thank Him or ask for His wisdom. Seeking God first may also mean saying no to certain distractions so we can focus on what really matters.
Let us challenge ourselves today and every day to make God our highest priority. Not just in words, but in action. Let us hunger for His presence more than worldly success. Let us desire His will more than our own plans. As we seek Him first, we will discover that everything else falls into place maybe not the way we expected, but in the way that is best for us.
