UNITED IN CHRIST

Being united in Christ does not mean we all look the same or think the same. God delights in diversity, and He has given each of us different gifts, perspectives, and personalities. This variety is not a threat to unity it enhances it. Just like the human body has many parts that work together to function properly, so the body of Christ is made up of many members who each serve a vital role. Our unity comes not from our similarities but from our shared connection to Jesus. He is the vine; we are the branches. As we remain in Him, we remain connected to each other.

However, unity is not automatic. It takes intentional effort, humility, and grace. Too often, personal preferences, pride, and unforgiveness create barriers between believers. The enemy loves to sow division, especially among God’s people, because he knows that a divided church is a weak church. That’s why Scripture urges us to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Unity is not about agreeing on everything; it’s about valuing each other enough to love, listen, and walk together even when we don’t.

Jesus Himself prayed for our unity in John 17, asking the Father to make us one, just as He and the Father are one. He knew that our unity would be a testimony to the world of who He is. When people see a community of believers who love each other, support one another, and live in harmony despite differences, they see a glimpse of God’s love in action. Our unity reflects the very nature of God and draws others toward Him.

Living united in Christ begins with the heart. It starts when we choose to see each other as fellow image-bearers of God, equally loved and equally in need of grace. It continues when we put aside selfish ambition and consider others better than ourselves. It grows when we forgive, encourage, and serve one another with joy. Though it may require sacrifice, unity in Christ brings deep blessing not just to us individually, but to the church as a whole.

Let us be people who pursue unity, not for our own sake, but for the sake of Christ and His mission. May our love for one another be so real and so strong that the world takes notice and is drawn to the God who makes us one.
