STEPS OF FAITH

Faith is the foundation of the Christian journey. It is not just believing in God but walking daily in trust, obedience and confidence in His promises, even when the path is unclear. Hebrews 11:1 defines it well: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Each step of faith we take draws us closer to God and aligns us with His purpose.

The first step of faith begins with trust. Abraham, the father of faith, demonstrated this when God called him to leave his homeland without knowing the destination. “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8). Trusting God means letting go of fear and uncertainty and leaning on His guidance. It is choosing to walk even when we cannot see the full road ahead.

The second step of faith is obedience. Faith without action is incomplete. James 2:17 reminds us, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Obedience proves that we believe God’s Word. Noah built the ark in obedience, even though rain had never fallen before. His obedience became the vessel of salvation for his family. In the same way, when we act on God’s instructions, we open doors for His blessings and protection.

The third step of faith is perseverance. Faith is not a one-time act but a continuous journey. Challenges, delays, and trials will come, but faith holds on to God’s promises despite the circumstances. “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Faith requires us to keep moving forward, trusting that God is working behind the scenes. Perseverance strengthens our character and shapes us into vessels ready for God’s glory.

The fourth step of faith is surrender. Sometimes, God calls us to let go of what we hold dear. Abraham demonstrated this when God asked him to offer Isaac. His willingness to surrender showed his absolute trust in God’s plan. Faith means laying down our will so that God’s will prevails. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5–6).

The fifth step of faith is expectation. Faith believes that God is faithful to fulfill what He has promised. “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). When we pray in faith, we should also expect answers. When we sow in faith, we should expect a harvest. When we step out in faith, we should expect God to meet us on the journey.

Walking in steps of faith is not always easy, but it leads us into deeper intimacy with God. Each step reveals His character, builds our trust, and draws us closer to His promises. As believers, we are called to rise above fear and doubt, and to keep walking step by step trusting that God is leading us into His perfect plan.
