BREAD OF LIFE

Throughout Scripture, bread symbolizes sustenance and daily provision. In the wilderness, God provided manna to the Israelites each morning to keep them alive (Exodus 16). That manna was a temporary provision, satisfying their physical hunger for a day. But Jesus presents Himself as something greater. He is not temporary nourishment He is eternal. The bread He offers does not just sustain life; it gives eternal life.

When Jesus calls Himself the Bread of Life, He invites us into a relationship that goes beyond simply knowing about Him. He calls us to partake of Him to receive Him fully into our lives. Eating bread is a personal act: no one can eat for you. In the same way, no one can receive Jesus on your behalf. You must come to Him personally, with open hands and a hungry heart.

Spiritual hunger is something every person experiences, even if they do not recognize it. People try to satisfy that hunger with success, possessions, entertainment, or relationships, yet still feel empty inside. These things may bring temporary satisfaction, but they cannot fill the soul. Only Jesus can. He satisfies the deepest longings of the heart and gives peace, purpose and eternal hope.

Jesus also said, “Whoever comes to me will never go hungry.” This doesn’t mean life will be without struggles or pain. It means that in Him, we find a constant source of strength and contentment. When the world leaves us weary and empty, He fills us again. He renews our souls like daily bread fresh every morning. The same way we need to eat daily to stay strong, we must seek Jesus daily through prayer, worship and reading His Word to stay spiritually strong.

As we feed on the Bread of Life, we are also called to share Him with others. Just as bread is meant to be broken and given, Jesus’ life was broken on the cross to give life to the world. And now, we are His hands and feet, bringing this living bread to those who are spiritually hungry around us.

Let us come to Jesus daily with open hearts, allowing Him to satisfy and sustain us. Let us trust Him as our true source of life and strength. And let us invite others to the table, where the Bread of Life is freely offered to all who believe.
